Greek New Year in Cyprus
Children receive their presents on New Year’s Day as this is the day of Ayios Vasilis (St Basil) the Greek Santa Claus.
Everyone celebrates with a slice of Vasilopita cake. There is a coin inside the cake and the person who finds the coin will be lucky for the rest of the year.
Epiphany – 6 January
The children of this sun-drenched island love this religious festival as part of the celebrations is diving into the cold sea and retrieving the cross the Priests throw in to bless the sea.

The new year finds Vasilis Papakonstantinou celebrating his name day at Aloft Music Bar. His first appearance in 2014 will take place in Ayia Napa on Wednesday 1 January 2014.

Loop Festival

WhereHaus 612 in Palouriotissa, is the venue that is hosting this year’s Loop Festival on the 3rd and 4th of January 2014.
The line-up includes London’s MC Xander who is a pioneer of human beatbox, making uplifting dub infused post-hip-hop music using only his voice and a loop pedal.
Croatian guitar player and producer Valent Samardžija a.k.a. for his project NT Wave uses his instrument in unconventional ways to produce sound. Biruta Ozoliņa (voice, kokle) and DJ Monsta (Uldis Cīrulis) (scratch, sampler, etc.) whose atmospheric music is rooted in the Latvian folklore and many, many more.
