New Year in Cyprus
St Basil (Ayios Vasilis) is the Greek Santa Claus / Father Christmas and the children in Cyprus receive their presents on this day which is also New Year’s Day.
The New Year cake is named after the saint ( it is called Vasilopita cake) and hidden inside the cake is a coin. The person who finds it, will be lucky for the rest of the year.

Louvana Records is organising Lefkosia Loop Festival, which this year is hosting ten acts, its largest line-up to date, to celebrate the festival’s fifth birthday. The artists hail from Cyprus, Greece, England and Poland. The festival will once again take place at its favorite location, Egomio Cultural Center, in Egomi.
Live Looping means creating and recording musical phrases on stage, and developing them using more phrases, different instruments and improvisation.

Evening Cycling

Every Wednesday, the ride commences from the meeting point at the Kolokassi Car Park in Nicosia and follows a short route through the old town centre and Ledra Street and then continues either towards Kaimakli/Aglantzia or Agio Andrea/Makedonitissa. The ride will finish at the Kolokassi Car Park.
This easy ride of about 20 kilometers is open to all. Don’t forget your bike lights! We strongly suggest wearing cycling helmets during these rides.
There is a team of volunteers, wearing orange safety-vests, who will be helping with the cyclists movement through traffic when necessary during our ride. For the safety of all, participants follow the marshalls’ instructions.
