Kolossi Castle
Kolossi Village, 14km west of Lemesos – Tel: 2593 4907
Open: June-Aug 9am-7.30am/Sep-May 9am-6pm daily
The castle is one of the most popular attractions in Limassol and very easy to reach either by bus (takes about 30 mins) or by car in about 10 minutes.
The castle is situated in Kolossi Village which is surrounded by carob and olive trees and vineyards. Just a short drive away is the beautiful Kourion Beach and the 2000 year old amphitheatre and ruins at Kourion.
Nearby is the village of Erimi where you can sample some of the delicious wines produced in the region at the Erimi Wine Museum.
The 13th century castle is very impressive but the narrow spiral staircase leading to the top is quite scary especially if you don’t like heights.
Once you get to the top you can see the old remains of a 14th century sugar factory and the rich fertile land where the Knights of St John grew grapes.
The grapes were used to produce the sweet desert wine Commandaria which is one of the oldest wines in the world and often used for weddings and special occasions.
