Weather In Cyprus
The weather in Cyprus is one of the best in the world and attracts many visitors to its shores every year.
Cyprus is a year-round destination with long sunny days and warm evenings.
If you don’t like the heat the best time to visit is in May or late September or October.
Spring Weather in Cyprus
This is one of the best times to visit Cyprus. The island is covered with wild flowers and the scent of blossoms and flowers fills the air.
In many northern European countries February is the coldest month. Temperatures drop to 2 or 3 C but in Cyprus it’s the beginning of Spring.
Some people even take a dip in the sparkling blue sea. Still a tad cold for me but as temperatures are normally in the early 20s, it’s a lot warmer than other parts of Europe.
The days are warm and sunny but it’s not too hot so great for exploring the natural beauty of the island. The Akamas Peninsula is ideal for nature rambles, walking holidays, cycling and hiking.
During March it’s possible to ski on the Troodos mountains during the morning and swim during the afternoon.
The resorts of Paphos and Limassol are not far away and many enjoy swimming at this time of the year and then heading for the mountains.
Summer Weather in Cyprus
Everyone loves the summer and this is when the majority of tourists descend upon the island.
Nicosia can become unbearably hot and many people vacate their city homes during the summer months and head for the cooler, fresher air of the Troödos mountains or nearby beaches.
The weather is still hot in September and it’s time to celebrate the harvesting of grapes in the villages and towns across Cyprus.
The Limasssol Wine Festival is held every year at the end of August / beginning of September and lasts for over a week.
Autumn Weather in Cyprus
During October and November the leaves start changing to red and gold and the weather in Cyprus changes. The days are still hot enough for a swim but the nights are cooling down so a light jacket or heavy cardigan is needed.
Pomegranates (Greek ρόδι – pronounced rothee) grow in abundance at this time of the year. In the Greek myth of Persephone the seeds of the fruit are used to explain the changing seasons. This juicy and very mystical fruit is often used in Greek Orthodox festivals.
Winter Weather in Cyprus
This is the time when many tourists escape the cold winter days and head for the island. Many come to celebrate Christmas and the New Year and stay for a couple of months.
In January there is sometimes a little rain and the temperature is around 18 – 20 C during the day but nights can be a little chilly. The temperature by the sea is very mild during the winter months of December and January.
From January to March the mountains are covered with snow for up to four or five months, so for those who love to ski this is the ideal time to visit the Troodos mountains.
