There are many exciting Cyprus cities and towns on this lovely little island which include the inland city of Nicosia (Lefkosia) which is the capital of the island.
The cities of Paphos, Limassol and Larnaca are popular Cyprus beach resorts and have their individual character and lifestyles.

The capital of Cyprus is Nicosia (in Greek Lefkosia) which is located inland but easy to reach from Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos.
With a modern city center, tree-lined avenues and a lovely Old Quarter full of restaurants and clubs it’s well worth visiting.

A bust of the Greek stoic philosopher Zeno (who came from the ancient city of Kition – now Larnaca) is on Finikoudes beach.
Larnaca is the third largest city in Cyprus and where the islands main international airport is located.
The famous Finikoudes beach is lined with palm trees, cafes and restaurants and the city has many historical attractions. There’s also a lovely marina which holds around 400 yachts.

The second largest city on the island is Limassol with the largest port on the island.
Known as the largest wine producing area on the island with some of the best wine coming from the southern slopes of the Troodos mountain range.
Every September the Limassol wine festival welcomes thousands of visitors to the one week festival which is famous all over Europe.

Paphos is the third largest city on the island and once the Roman capital of the island.
This is where St Paul preached the gospel and it’s also the birthplace of the goddess and patron of the island Aphrodite Greek Goddess of love and beauty.
The area is full of myths and legends and overflowing with archaeological treasures which are a must to see. The beautiful nature reserve and coastline of the Akamas Peninsula are well worth visiting.
Cyprus Cities and Towns ~ Ayia Napa
Ayia Napa was once a small fishing village which took its name from the Greek word napa meaning wooded valley.
Ayia Napa has 200 clubs and bars around the square, a variety of restaurants and attractions to visit and so great fun for all the family.
Cyprus Villages
Travel inland and you will soon discover the real Cyprus. Byzantine churches and the wine producing villages close to Paphos, Limassol at the foot of the Troodos Mountains.
These areas are a joy to visit and there are many more little villages in the remote areas of the Akamas Peninsula. Lara Bay is where the endangered logger-head turtles breed and a four-wheel drive comes in handy as the roads in this area are not so good.
Not far from here is the village of Pegeia (pronounced Peyia) and the small fishing village of St Georges (Ayios Georgios) which is famous for it’s pretty harbor, church and popular fish tavernas.
Between Limassol and Paphos is the lovely Cypriot Village of Pissouri. Renowned for its’ picturesque square with fountains, shops and tavernas and the lovely Pissouri Bay.
There are many more lovely villages such as Lania and Kalavasos where you can rent a village house or apartment and just relax, unwind and enjoy. You can hire a car and visit the many mountain and winemaking villages of the island at your leisure.
In Cyprus driving is on the left so if you’re coming from the UK you’ll find driving conditions very similar to those at home.
Protaras
Protaras is just a ten minute drive from Ayia Napa and famous for its lovely beaches.
Located on the south eastern coast of Cyprus between Cape Greco and the village of Paralimni this is a very popular holiday destination.

The area of Famagusta (Ammochostas in Greek) is where Agia Napa and Protaras are located. Situated on the east coast of the island with beautiful sandy beaches and crystal clear waters.
The once famous beachside town of Famagusta (Varosha in Greek) has been in the Turkish side of the Green Line since 1974.

The small town of Polis has the backdrop of the Akamas peninsula and Chrysochous Bay.
Although the resort is becoming more popular it still reflects a typical Cypriot lifestyle.

Coral Bay is a very popular holiday resort is just 12km west of Paphos.
Coral Bay has a lovely sandy beach and many lovely villas.
