Anthestiria - Flower Festival

During Spring the island is ablaze with flowers and the Spring Flower Festivals are spectacular with parades and flower filled floats which focus on Ancient Greece.


The festival was originally in honour of Dionysus, the Greek God of wine and celebrates rebirth. The word Anthestiria comes from anthos which in Greek means flower.


The festival features exhibitions, crafts, flower markets and shows and culminates in a colourful flower parade.

Cyprus Events May - Eleftheria Arvanitaki in Concert in Nicosia

Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Cyprus

Eleftheria Arvanitaki returns to Cyprus this May for two performances at RED in Nicosia followed by performances at the Rialto in Limassol from Saturday 12 May - 13th May 2012 (Starts at 20:30 - Cost €25 / €20)

Born in Piraeus, she began her career in the early 1980s with the popular rembetika revival band, Opisthodromiki Kompania.

She went solo in 1984 and has since recorded over 20 albums with most of them going platinum. From classic ballads like “Tis kalinichtas ta filia” (Goodbye Kisses) to the lively “To Kokkino Foustani” (The Red Dress), Eleftheria’s blend of traditional and contemporary Greek music has secured her as one of Greece’s most celebrated singers.

Eleftheria has performed in Rome before Pope John Paul II, at the international WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) festivals and as part of the Philip Glass closing ceremony of the Athens Olympics in 2004.

'She has also collaborated with eminent international artists including Cesaria Evora and Dulce Pontes, as well as leading Greek composers such as Stamatis Spanoudakis and Manos Hadjidakis' (Athens News 18 Dec 2011).

Eleftheria has toured extensively throughout Europe, including Germany, Belgium, France and the UK and almost every city in Spain during her first Iberian tour in 2002, as well as Australia, South Africa and the USA.
